Awards Evening 2022 Guest Panel

Image
At our Leaver’s Awards Ceremony at the beginning of the year, we had an opportunity to catch-up some of our alumni. Former Wyke students, Katy Robinson, Jonathon Ellis and Matty Pinder, alongside Professor Becky Huxley-Binns (Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Hull), were invited to discuss the challenges associated with success. Matty is currently in his second year at the University of Oxford reading Law, whilst Katy and Jonathon have recently been commended for their achievements, named as recipients of the Humber “Top 30 under 30” business award. All of our panel provided interesting insights on their professional journey and revealed that even “failure” can be positive by overcoming obstacles and pushing you in a rewarding direction.

Hotels on Campus

Re-wilding an area of the Wyke campus is going to happen thanks to Declan Whittaker and Shelby Coulson, both Geography students and members of the College’s Eco enrichment group. They have been awarded £2000 in prize money after winning the senior section of The Waterline Student Sustainability Challenge. The competition was open to individuals and teams from the Humber area and the brief invited entrants to create innovative solutions to environmental problems. Shelby’s and Declan’s project centred on an environmental app with a social media spin. The app tracks and records an individual’s environmental credentials and translates this impact into tangible outcomes. The social aspect encourages the user to engage with tips and advice on how to improve their carbon footprint. Feedback from focus groups has enabled Shelby and Declan to refine their product, adding more articles and news stories. Thanks to Declan and Shelby on their win and for being so generous with their award. D...

If you have an issue with your timetable or need to collect your lanyard, please have a chat with your tutor or go to the Oak reception during your free period.

Results Day 2022

Image
2022 was the best results ever at Wyke Sixth Form College. 158 A*s, 61% A*-B and 81% Distinction*/Distinction vocational awards. Wyke students showed remarkable resilience and determination to deliver work at the highest level despite the challenges of lockdowns, remote working in their first year and uncertainty about how they would be assessed. Their sustained effort, supported by our exceptional teaching and pastoral teams, led to the best outcomes and destinations in Wyke’s history.
